You are applying with the Lester Prairie Police Department for a handgun permit to purchase, transfer, or carry.  These permits are issued pursuant to Minnesota Statute, Chapter 624.  To qualify for a handgun permit, you must meet the following requirements:

  1. You must be 21 years of age.
  2. You must be a resident of the City of Lester Prairie.
  3. You must complete the attached form entitled "Minnesota Uniform Firearms Application / Receipt".  Read the instructions and complete the form by answering ALL of the questions.  On the first page, in the upper left-hand corner, it indicates which type of permit you are applying for.  This area must be filled out or your permit will automatically be denied.  The applicaiton must be signed and dated in the three (3) appropriate areas.  The enclosed release authorization for the "Minnesota Department of Human Services" must also be filled out and signed.

The handgun permit that is issued expires one (1) year after the Chief of Police signs it.  Once you complete the forms and return them to the Lester Prairie Police Department, we are required to conduct an investigation and gather certain information on you.  Once that is completed, you will be advised by mail whether the permit was approved or denied.  If it is approved, you will receive the permit in the mail.

Please review the restrictions that are mentioned in the application for the handgun permit.

If you have any questions regarding filling out this applcation please contact Chief of Police Robert Carlson.
